AN ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF PAJAM LANDFILL ON THE ENVIRONMENT

ABSTRACT

Sanitary Landfill is place for solid waste disposal but it is not a dump. It is a disposal area which uses a scientific approach in managing waste and protecting the environmental from pollution by waste. At the moment, Malaysia have more than 200 disposal sites but there are only few site that fulfill all the criteria of a sanitary landfill, which is carefully planned, designed and operated.

Pajam Landfill is one of them which is not met the required of a sanitary landfill. Pajam Landfill is also my studied area for my final project title. From the studies, I found the Pajam landfill had caused difference type of pollutions to the environment such as the water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution and etc. there are the weakness of Pajam Landfill, added that Pajam Landfill is going to full in another 2 years time. Therefore, a new landfill site is needed supports the solid waste that receiving by the Pajam Landfill now.

A new site is selected by me just not far away from Pajam Landfill. In my designs of a new landfill site, I had followed all the requirement of a sanitary landfill. The requirements are placing of bottom liner, constructing an effective drainage system, providing the leach ate and gas collection system, landscaping and also the monitoring stations all over the site and etc.
