ABSTRACT

This report is specially written to meet the requirement of EGC 284, which is a requirement of Diploma in Civil Engineering and also for the reference of the related fields. This report evaluates the characteristic of the rubberized pavement using discarded tries. The characteristic stated are stability, flow, voids in total mix, and voids filled with asphalt. The crumb rubber from inner tube is used to act as part of the binding agent which contribute to the adhesion of the mix.

The investigation is done in two stages; i.e. determining the optimum asphalt content at earlier stage, and characterizing the rubberized asphalt at latter stage. As a result, the characteristic of the rubberized pavement are able to minimize the usage of asphalt and prevent the environmental problems in terms of stockpiling of used tires. Its smother surface also indicates a better ride for the pavement. Thus, this report show that it is a good HMA to be used in the paving work.
