A STUDY ON SHALLOW FOUNDATION

ABSTRACT
The term ‘shallow foundation’ can be classified as DF/B is les than or equal to one where DF as the depth of footing and B is its width. Shallow is used transfer the load of structure to the supporting soil.
The soil must be capable to carry the loads from any structure placed without a shear failure can result in excessive building distortion and even collapse. Excessive settlements can result in structural damage to a building frame, excessive wear or equipment failure from misalignment resulting from foundation settlements.
Foundation settlements must be estimated with great care for buildings. Soil settlement computations are best estimates of deformation to expect when the future load is applied. We must design a good foundation to prevent from being bearing capacity failure occur.
