DESIGN OF BOX CULVERT FOR DRAINAGE

ABSTRACT

Nowadays more designers and contractors had realized the usefulness of using pre-cast products in their design because by doing this actually a lot of works could be done easily and rapidly. And one of the most popular pre-cast products is the ‘Box Culvert’. It is very useful pre-cast unit especially in highway building where highway crosses many natural channels and the provision of coveying the flows to the right of way is necessary.

Provided that the existing waterways are not too wide (normally smaller than 6m) and not too deep, the Box Culvert could always be the first option. Why people prefer to use Box Culvert rather than to construct a short span bridge in situ could be very time consuming whereas Box Culvert could be easily manufactured and ordered in the factory beforehand.
