ABSTRACT

This is the study about the whole procedure carry out from design stage through construction stage until the completion of the Allan Block’s retaining wall.

At design stage, this project shows the basic principle involved according to the requirement of the site. The most important in design stage deals with the magnitude and distribution of lateral pressure between a soil mass and an adjoining retaining structure. This can be based on Rankine’s Theory or Coulomb’s theory according to different assumption. In this report the difference between these two theories was found out and most of the part focused on the coulomb’s Theory that was used in design of the Allan Block’s retaining wall.

In this project in Kedah, they used the Allan Block which in produced by the Allan Block Corporation from America. As required, this wall was needed to construct from the range of 2.552m height until 5.626m height. Therefore, my study was just focused on the requirement to be considered according to this height range.

I also studied the construction procedure in this project from the beginning until the completion of the wall. This project take around one and half month to construct it. From the design and construction, the strength and weakness of this wall was found out and the suitability for this type of wall constructed in this location also has to be identified.
