ABSTRACT

This report is suitable for both novice reader who have no ideas on column and the designer of column. This report is especially prepared for the designer of circular column since direct determination of the areas of reinforcement can be very tedious and unwise.

This report:

· Provides chart for circular column designer

· Provides charts that are not available in BS8110

· Introduces the types of column available

· Illustrates the types of failures on column

· Introduces the loading and moments of column

· Study of interaction diagram

· Shows derivation of charts for circular column

· Using MATLAB to develop design charts

Readers who have go through this report will have better understanding on column. This report can be a references and a guideline to designer who prefer to design others shape of column, the same principle can be apply as stated in this report.
