A STUDY AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN AUTOMATED BACK UP SOLUTION FOR SERVERS RUNNING IN SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED BUSINESS USING DISK-TO-DISK TECHNOLOGY
BY
ABSTRACT
Today, a number of storage and communications technologies have converged into the backup applications area. The result is that data users have a wider choice of backup options than ever before. Many large data owners will remain dependant on tape because of its low cost/ megabyte. However, most of small to medium sized organizations would do better to look at other technologies for their backup as replacements for tape, or to provide different survivability and restoration characteristics. That is why a disk-to-disk technology was chosen in this project. The target users who would probably utilize this software are most likely to be system administrators or network administrators depending on who is in charge of the server. This project will benefit users, as it is simple and can be implemented on all operating systems that support JAVA or C. The software will have an advantage over other backup softwares in the sense of speed and data protection. The main objective of this project is to provide reliable and fast backup solution to small and medium sized business servers.
