ABSTRACT

Linux is a free Unix-like operating system developed by the originator – Linus Torvalds with the assistance of a worldwide team led by Linus over the Internet. Linux is gaining its popularity rapidly because it is a free distribution written under GNU General Public License. The project is therefore intended as a research study on the memory management and processes handling in Linux operating system. The main focus is to provide readers an overview understanding of Linux operating system and then to manage the optimization concept on memory. As memory usage highly dependent on the processes, therefore, the idea behind optimization is to deal with processes in providing more room to memory.
