ABSTRACT

As technology grows at a fast pace, many computer networks have switched for the conventional communication links transmission to wireless transmission. This technology is designed to suit all kinds of user from student to professional knowledge workers. Therefore, a wireless library book reservation system will be developed and implemented which seeks to efficiently manage the process of book reservation. This project researches the technology of developing software and application for a PDA. Basically, the library system acts as a server while the students and lecturers act as a client. The systems allow the PDA to exchange data with the server. Since the lecturers are busy with teaching and students with their studies, they have not much time to go to library to borrow a particular book, so this system is designed to them to use the PDA to reserve books from the library counter via wireless connection. Students can also check the availability of books by just sending a message of request through their PDA to the library. Those messages will alert the librarian and immediately they will process the request and send the feedback to the students or lecturers. As a result, students and lecturers need not to wait in a long queue to make book reservation and any queries about the books. They can easily manage it by send a message to the librarian.
