IMPLEMENTATION OF DISTRIBUTED FILE SHARING SYSTEM WITH FAST AND EXHAUSTIVE SEARCH

This project concerns the development of a file sharing system that is capable to perform a fast and exhaustive search features. This system allows the users to eliminate the inconveniences of searching through all files for a particular single file. The system also allows the user to have more sophisticated controls over the sharing, sending and receiving files. Beside the basic functionality, the system is designed to be attractive and has user friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) in the sense that it’s such an ease to use that users do not need any manual to perform it. The features that this system included are: upload and download files to server, multiple file transfers, file transfer with resume capability, perform searching that will return files that match all search terms. The system is developed using the Visual Basic 6.0. The system process begins when a connection is made between client and server. The user is only required to logs on with a user name and password. The username and password identify user’s account on the server. Study and research on existing protocols are carried out so that a suitable protocol can be selected to apply in the system. The system produced helps users to reduce the time and operations in the process of file sharing and transferring.
