ABSTRACT

Despite a promising start in the medical domain, expert systems have not been widely accepted in routine pharmaceutical use. Therefore, this project performs an in-depth study on expert system. It addresses the issues of acceptance towards prescription diagnostic system. The basic requirement is that the system’s performance on tasks should be judged acceptable in comparison with the human beings already performing the tasks. Besides, the prescription diagnostic system designed must be capable of providing efficient consultation and presenting its conclusions and recommendations. It also addresses problems on the unavailability of human expertise in situations where it is needed. The online prescription diagnostic system is needed in the pharmaceutical industry because the specialization and technical sophistication have made it difficult for pharmacists to keep up with advances in diagnostics methods. Specialists with this knowledge are rare and costly, and therefore expert systems are seen as a way of making their expertise available to a wider range of pharmacists. By making the prescription diagnostic system available online, many problems may be solved without needing a visit by a human expert. In addition, the customers will be guaranteed privacy and anonymity. This system can mimic a pharmacist in such a way that it is able to produce proper healthcare advice.
