INVESTIGATION ON ACTIVE X DATA OBJECTS (ADO) IN IMPROVING DATA ACCESS IN DATABASE SYSTEMS
BY
This project investigates Active X Data Objects (ADO), which is the newest data access offering from Microsoft Company. ADO, as a new feature introduced by Microsoft, which provides a familiar, high-level automation-type interface to OLEDB. ADO provides many advantages to the VB programmer, including ease of use, a familiar interface, high speed, and very low memory overhead. With all these powerful functions from this new technology, the project will be focused on ADO’s three data objects, which are “Connection”, “Command”, and the most important “Recordset”. The author will provide several examples to show that how ADO can use these objects to make effective data access in database systems. To support this, a database system is to be created which contains detailed product information of a computer software company. As this database system is to be best developed to take advantages and to demonstrate to ADO’s improved data access methods. From this project, the author hopes that by using ADO, which is a newly introduced powerful data access tool from Microsoft, can help all users to make more effective data access through their database systems.
