DEVELOPING A VIRTUAL CLASSROOM FOR INTI COLLEGE TO ENABLE DISTANCE LEARNING

ABSTRACT
With the advent of new educational and training technologies and the need to meet the needs of learners in a fast-paced world, distance learning is becoming a necessity. It can help educate more people any where at any time. Distance learning has the potential to change public perception of education an its ongoing importance through out our lives. For this reason, the virtual classroom was developed for INTI College to enable distance learning. Basically, the virtual classroom is one of the components of virtual campus and provides the delivery of on-line interactive education services and application. Students attend lectures via access to Internet. Teaching and learning take place by a combination of online assignment and self-assessed exercises, using course materials on the web, searching relevant terminology through search engine, tutorials and discussions conducted in chat room (virtual meeting spaces). In addition, the database was created to store the records of the registered students. All in all, the virtual classroom was successfully created. The virtual classroom can provide ongoing education to more people, it can help us as lecturers, students, and trainers share information and gain broader perspective on a specific subject.
