ABSTRACT

Security is very important because many people in many places have access to a database system. The information stored in some database may be of great value to a corporation. It must not be lost, stolen, or damaged. It is important to protect the data and programs from hardware and software failures, criminals, vandals, incompetent and people who would misuse it. A database is often shared by user for whom security is of little or no importance, and other user for whom it is vital. It may be shared by users who are highly responsible with urgent business and others who irresponsible and likely to try anything. A shared environment is more difficult to control than a non-shared environment. Increasingly today, data are shared in databases, and made accessible to a larger number of people via networks. A database, data communication system needs tight controls. Recognising this, the computer industry has designed hardware and software with better facilities for security than with non-database system.
