ABSTRACT

A problem on a computer network can impact the productivity of several hundred users, so it’s important to find the cause of the problem and correct it as soon as possible. This can be a daunting task. The traffic on the network is generated by hundreds of hardware devices and thousands of software drivers. Without a tool that can display and interpret the network traffic, a network administrator is limited to time-consuming trial and error to try to isolate a problem. This project discusses the relevance of network analyzer and its importance in the context of network monitoring and management. In this project it also covers in-depth. It also covers the network protocol layering and packet analysis with respect to the TCP/IP, IPX/SPX and possibly other protocol. This project also investigates the problems and techniques of developing a network analyzer as a network-diagnosing tool. It serves as a tool for troubleshooting a network, providing detailed network traffic analysis of the behaviour of the network over time.
