ABSTRACT

This project is all about peer-to-peer file sharing and transferring. A centralized server will be developed in order to responsible for peer discovery and manage search assistance. Clients must be connected to server at specified server’s IP address. The primary function; file sharing, file searching, file transferring and chat function will become available once the connection is accepted. Users can share files that place on their hard disk, and then upload the shared files indexes to server. Server will accept the shared files indexes from clients and insert it into its database. Other than this, users can search file by type in the file name and select the file type. The system will accept all types of input for filename and send search request to server. The server will process the search by checking all shared files record in database. If file matches the search query, the server will send back the search results to user. File transferring process is directly between clients, without intervention of server. Additional functions have been added in the system, such as view download and upload status, send instant message to other user. Major purpose of this system is to built a sharing community and encourages communication for those people with same interest.
